Stop the War coalition: The warmongers are circling

‘Britain must prepare for war. And we need to do it now,’ said former Defence Secretary George Robertson a few weeks ago, suggesting the war in the Middle East should be a ‘wake-up call’ that reminds us of our own vulnerabilities. The solution: rearm at pace, money no object.

As the economic fallout from the Iran war hits home, this demand for remilitarisation is being met with increasing opposition. Here in the UK Stop the War is leading the charge. The cost of living crisis is only going to intensify, and with it the demands for welfare not warfare, wages not weapons must get louder.

War and militarism are on the rise. Iran, Gaza, Cuba and Venezuela all show how out of control US imperialism is and yet our government remains tethered to its tail. And rather than injecting calm and reason, the UK and major European powers are joining the clamour for might through military means.

For three years we have held a critical role in the Palestine coalition. We have played a key part organising the largest sustained mass mobilisation against the war in Gaza and the genocide of Palestinians this country has ever seen. 

In only four weeks time we are hosting what is going to be a hugely important international anti-war conference. The conference is a major undertaking costing us vast sums in both money and staff resources. It will be a major contributor to the establishment of a much needed international anti-war movement, but to make it the success it must be we need your help.
