The International Conference Against War reflected the determination felt by millions across Europe to resist the push for war and militarism. 

Almost 3,000 were in attendance from 27 countries, and over 7,000 watched online in real time or shortly after. The main hall was full as was the 700 capacity overflow room. The atmosphere was electric and defiant.

But we won’t stop here. Last Saturday was just the beginning. We must seize the opportunities arising from the conference to build mass opposition to the war mongers here and abroad. 

Stop the War has strengthened and revitalised connections in the global anti-war movement. At a time when we are experiencing a massive shift towards the militarisation of the economy this could not be more important. Starmer may be on his way out but it is clear Burnham will maintain his policies on rearmament and military spending and we must step up our opposition.

Next Steps

• Read and share the conference statement. 
• Pass the model resolution in your union branch and organisation. The resolution calls for support for the statement and the actions from the conference.
• Commit to supporting and building the international days of action and protests.
• Get in touch with the office and become more involved in Stop the War. We can put you in contact with your local group or help you set one up in your area. 
• All groups get organising locally with meetings and street stalls.
• Download the new Cut War not Welfare petition and hold petitioning sessions. 
• Make sure your union/organisation is affiliated to StW.

The conference agreed to make Saturday 10 October a global demonstration for Palestine. Save the date now – let all your contacts know about 10 October and organise transport.

The conference cost a lot! Hosting 3,000 people is expensive, translating the proceedings into multiple languages to enable the conference to be truly international does not come cheap, and streaming and recording costs add up.
