National CND: Stop bombing Iran! Shut down US bases! Join the protest at RAF Fairford on 15 August

The US is once again ramping up its attacks on Iran – now on day 12 – targeting bridges, power plants, and desalination plants that supplies water to 10,000 people across many villages. In retaliation Iran has targeted US bases in countries including Qatar, Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait. Since the start of the war in February, over 3,000 Iranians have been killed and 17 US troops.
Trump is now threatening to bomb more civilian infrastructure to hold the people of Iran to ransom over the Strait of Hormuz. He continues to argue that the military attacks are also to stop a nuclear threat from Iran and he is once again threatening to bomb Iran’s Natanz nuclear facilities. If these attacks were to go ahead, it would risk releasing radioactive material into the atmosphere.
RAF Fairford base being used for bombing raid
According to RAF Fairford carried out a bombing raid on Iran on Tuesday. US CENTCOM states ‘CENTCOM assets targeted Iranian military operations centers, maritime capabilities, aircraft hangars, drone storage facilities, and military logistics infrastructure …’
This comes as Andy Burnham, Britain’s new Prime Minister, has continued his predecessor’s policy of allowing British bases in Diego Garcia and Fairford for US long-range bombers to attack Iran. Burnham is repeating Starmer’s arguments that the bases will only being used defensively, to try and avoid taking responsibility for his actions. But giving permission for the use of the bases, is actively assisting the Trump administration, which is breaching international law and committing war crimes.
Opposition to our government’s support for this war is growing. Fresh pollingpublished by YouGov found that more people now oppose the use of British bases for Trump’s illegal war on Iran than they did in March – with opposition up by 9% to 58%.
To respond to the latest attacks, CND is calling a demonstration at RAF Fairford on Saturday, 15 August, alongside Stop the War Coalition, Fairford Action, and others. Join us in condemning Trump’s illegal war and to call on Burnham to send the US bombers home and close down these bases for good!

Seeking support for Fairford Action
Fairford Action is a new initiative that CND is supporting and is a part of. Its aim is to build local support for regular actions at Fairford to help increase awareness and grow opposition to this US war crimes base. They are looking for volunteers who can help them over the coming months with the following:
- Website design and upkeep – setting up website (basic information sharing site), updating website regularly as alliance grows
- Social media and communications – setting up social media accounts, posting regularly as part of a communications team
