Salisbury CND's Hiroshima and Nagasaki Day commemoration

We were blessed with a beautiful evening for this event, a sombre remembering of the terrible suffering associated with the use of nuclear weapons.

Two hundred candles floated down the River Avon, accompanied by paper lanterns decorated by student of Kyoso Junior High School in Hiroshima.  This event expressed our joint commitment to a peaceful world, free of nuclear weapons.  If you would like to see the designs of the lanterns from Hiroshima in more detail, please click this link: Lanterns from Hiroshima arrive in Salisbury ahead of our candle float

As you look at the pictures below, please remember that each candle represents the loss of approximately 1000 lives and reflect on whether you want our government to devote so much of our money to these weapons of mass destruction.
