Your chance to change
party policies on Trident
Labour Party submissions close tomorrow
Ahead of a vote by MPs later this year, opposition to Trident is increasing both inside and outside of Parliament. While the
SNP, Plaid Cymru, Green and
SDLP MPs are united in
opposition to Trident, the Labour Party and Liberal Democrats are currently undertaking policy reviews.
The Labour review is happening in two stages. Shadow Defence Secretary Emily Thornberry has published a consultation which
closes on Saturday 30 April, which you can
read here. The outcome of the review will feed into the National Policy Forum, which is
undertaking its own consultation,
closing on Wednesday 8 June.
You do not need to be a member of the Labour Party to take part in either of these reviews. You can find more information and read the
CND submission on our website.
The Liberal Democrats are opposed to like-for-like Trident replacement, but a policy commission is considering the party’s long-term approach to the issue. The review is currently taking evidence from invited groups, and
CND will be giving evidence in the summer. It is expected that a final report will be made in Spring 2017.
